Karyn Calabrese declares "she is not special". Yet it is undeniable, she has a special gift. She has learned to listen to the knowledge innate within herself and become a leading holistic healer and teacher. Many people look at Karyn at 67 and assume she inherited a strong matriarchy. The facts are, however, that both her mother and grandmother died at ages younger than Karyn is now. With this seeming fate at hand, she sets out to prove her genetic heredity wrong. This is where her story begins. Alone with two children to raise, she bought her first wheatgrass juicer and opened a new life of growth and prosperity with her first business, growing and distributing wheatgrass. More importantly this began her life-long exploration into the inter-connectedness between food and body and the ultimate attainment of self-insurance and inner peace. Karyn had been a vegetarian for 12 years, but this was merely a first step leading towards a completely raw food diet. No doubt this is a tough life to come to. It is out of the "norm" and denies what we have so long held as "truths". To make this more feasible, Karyn opened her raw-foods restaurant, Karyn's Fresh Corner, which was a thriving success. Although mostly self taught, Karyn had many mentors along the way. It was through these interactions that Karyn found the next important step in her path. She believes it is not enough to simply eat live foods but to cleanse the body of the strong, negative, anti-life foods still in the body. Today, Karyn teaches detoxification classes through the year to give these lessons to others. To facilitate this process of cleansing, she opened a holistic therapy center, Karyn's Inner Beauty Center. This is where we find Karyn today. A 67 year old woman and "Raw Foodist of the Year" who lives the full, lively life she envisioned giving herself. She is working on a book that gives the voice to the positive experiences of the people she has helped along their own journeys. And this is what, contrary to what she declares, does indeed make her special. She has created an all-encompassing environment of food, health, guidance and care where we can all participate in our own well being. For as Karyn herself questions at the end of every day: "If you don't take care of this, the most magnificent machine you'll ever be given, where are you going to live?"

Hello! I am a happily married Christian Mom of 2 grown kids! I discovered the raw, plant-based lifestyle in 2007 and developed a passion for making raw vegan food through Alissa Cohen. I began teaching classes through her certified program in 2010. I was a flight attendant for Continental (United) Airlines for 20 years. I began working my gourmet raw business as a Personal Chef which led to a partnership with working my business through Tru Meals in Houston, TX. When Tru Meals closed, I was still interested in continuing my professional business. At that point, my Darling Hubby saw an article on food trucks and the idea to have a completely raw, vegan, living food trailer was born! After 6 months of juggling both careers, I prayerfully decided to work my certified food trailer full time. How I eat: I consider myself "high-raw", which means that my vegan and plant-based lifestyle includes a very high percentage of uncooked (raw) plant-based meals. It's easy for me to do that since I'm working in my food trailer most of the week, where I make fully raw meals for myself and others. I absolutely LOVE my own gourmet raw vegan food! Sometimes I consume all raw for stretches of time, but there have been times when I'm out with friends or just feel like having something vegan that is cooked, such as Lentils, Beans, or Veggie Soup, then I'm less raw. I think of eating raw vegan as a lifestyle. I enjoy finding raw or plant-based vegan restaurants! I love thinking about raw food, preparing raw food, and especially, eating raw food! I really LOVE playing with my food! It's just so much FUN!!!! I really don't enjoy "cooking" food at all. Occasionally, I do cook vegan meals for my family, so I understand the challenge some have when they are trying to maintain the raw lifestyle while having to cook for others; although my family eats a lot of plant-based food with me. Of course, if I knew then, what I know now, I would have never given my kids cooked food at all. Now that my kids are all grown up (YAY!!!), if they want to eat something cooked they make it themselves....double YAY! :-). I find that, if I am cooking something on the stove, I have to stay near it or I forget I'm cooking and burn it! LOL! That's the beauty of preparing raw food...nothing ever burns (and raw food saves on electricity also)! Over the years, I have found that the more raw I eat, the better I feel. I absolutely LOVE to cleanse my body using delicious freshly made juices and fasting from time to time. I have learned to listen to my body and to be kind to myself. I have first hand experience of the wonderful changes you can feel after going raw, especially losing weight and having mental clarity and energy! After all these years, I'm still learning and growing. I know that food choices are very personal and emotional and that not everyone is ready, willing, or desiring to eat completely raw and vegan. I do not pretend to know everything and I never tell anyone what is the best way to eat for them personally. Rather, I encourage everyone to give raw vegan food a try and take note of the difference eating the right foods can make in your body, mind, and spirit. I truly believe the closer a person's diet is to the plant-based lifestyle, the more changes you will see and the better you will feel. IMHO, achieving optimal health through a plant-based diet is a journey rather than a race. The more I learn about food, nutrition, and the environment, the better choices I make for myself and the better equipped I am to help others. I had suffered from Migraines for years. One month my Migraine stayed with me for 32 DAYS STRAIGHT! I'm NOT kidding you!!! It was TERRIBLE! I stayed home in my room...the slightest bit of light made me feel like my head was going to explode! I completed a RAW Cleanse of my colon and my Migraines were GONE and they have NOT returned! I feel better than I've ever felt in my life....I REALLY DO!!! I firmly believe that if you want to learn from someone, that person should be someone who truly LOVES what they are doing. For me, teaching RAW and Living Food is something I love to do. My Classes are TONS of FUN!!!! Teaching the ART of Living on Live Food is definitely a passion of mine! I really LOVE it...and I do my best to LIVE it. 😀
